We're not homeless!

After weeks and weeks of apartment after apartment. Apartments too short, bedrooms to small, no dishwasher, crummy area, weird smells, creepy crawlies, and more short ceilings we found the apartment for us!

Let me tell you... it's an adventure finding an apartment that is tall enough when your future husband is 7'3. There are things you have to think about that the normal person would never consider. Like for instance, most people wouldn't notice this, but in most apartments the hallways are shorter than the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms; also the bathroom ceilings are lower than everything else too! Wouldn't you want a place where you can take a shower standing up? He already has to deal with shower heads being at his belly button.

I got pretty good at weeding through apartments pretty fast. I would first ask the room dimensions and whether it had a washer/dryer or dishwasher. I would prefer one or the other and especially both. Anything with less wasn't an option. Also, the room dimensions had to be big enough to fit a cal king and even that bed isn't long enough for him, but he's used to that. If those factors passed the initial test I would check out the place. Once I got in the room I would raise my arm to the ceiling, if my hand could lay flat or worse it definitely wasn't an option and I was out the door.

Finally we came upon our future home. There were 2 apartments available in the complex and we checked out apartment 2 first. It was nice, had lots of storage space but it had the typical problem: low hallway and bathroom ceiling. Then it was on to apartment 5. This one was on the top floor and once we walked in I could see David was sold. The ceilings were high enough even in the hallway and bathroom (maybe plumbing makes the ceilings lower there in bottom floor apartments?). That was his selling point. And for me it had a dishwasher and a somewhat new oven. We were kind of bummed that it didn't have as much storage space but later learned we even get our own storage room in the basement of the complex!

We put a deposit down fast on this baby, I didn't want David bending over more than he had to. Days went by that felt like weeks. Finally today around 8pm we get a call that the apartment is ours and we can pick up the keys tomorrow!

This is making the whole wedding thing even more real and awesome!

Britta. Yay! I remember getting our keys and signing our lease on our apartment. It's fun because you feel very close to married and then you get up there to the empty apt. with your new keys and it's just the coolest thing ever to know you'll live there together. Oh!! Have fun when you open the door with your keys!! Love you!
